Reigning and eight-time Austrian snooker champion Florian Nüßle delivered solid and attractive Snooker in Saïdia, Morocco, advancing to the quarterfinals. However, he suffered a narrow 3-4 defeat against Northern Ireland’s Fergal Quinn in a closely contested match.
After confidently topping his group with victories over Craig Steadman (England, 3-0), local favorite Rabie Chamie (3-0), and Yu Kiu Chang from Hong Kong (3-2), the reigning 6-Reds European Champion continued his strong run in the knockout rounds. Wins over India’s Asutosh Padhy (4-2) and former professional Mark Joyce from England (4-2) followed—despite Nüßle facing a 0-2 deficit with Joyce leading comfortably in the third frame. In the round of 16, he took on China’s Zhou Jinhao and secured a dominant 4-1 victory, confirming his status as a serious contender for a spot in the final.
In the quarterfinal against Northern Ireland’s Fergal Quinn, Austria’s number one had multiple chances to take a 3-0 lead. However, some bad luck and a shift in momentum saw the match level at 2-2 after four frames, signaling that every ball could be decisive. Towards the end, Quinn found the better opening shots and capitalized with breaks of 65 and 60 in the sixth and seventh frames, sealing a 4-3 victory. This ended Nüßle’s campaign and his chance to secure the Main Tour ticket awarded to the tournament winner.
The highly coveted professional tour ticket eventually went to China’s Yang Gao, who defeated Malta’s Brian Cini 5-3 in the final, earning a spot on the biggest stage of international Snooker for the next two seasons.

For Florian Nüßle, who played the tournament’s second-highest break with a total clearance of 136 points (behind champion Yang Gao’s 140), the journey continues to Barnsley, England. On February 5 at 12:00 CET he will face China’s Jun Jiang in the qualifying round of the BetVictor Welsh Open Main Tour event. Immediately afterward, he will head to Walsall for the final event of the European Q Tour season from February 7 to 9. A strong result there would significantly boost his chances of qualifying for the Q Tour Playoff in March in Antalya, where three Main Tour spots are up for grabs. Additionally, the EBSA European Championship will offer another pathway to professional status for the Open Class and U21 winners.
