Carl Walter Steiner will participate in the traditional Jim Williamson Open at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds, England, on August 10 & 11, 2024. The Viennese player will face one of the tournament favorites, defending champion Peter Sheehan from England, in Group D.

The internationally renowned event, which marks the start of the 2024/25 WBL season, is well-stocked with 80 participants, including world champions Peter Gilchrist and Dave Causier, who are arguably the best Billiards players in the world right now.

Steiner, currently ranked 89 in the world and the best Austrian player, is fighting for direct qualification for the WBL World Championship in the timed format this fall. His other opponents are Eddie Duggan from England, Richard de la Haye from Jersey and Jennifer Earle, who is part of a strong delegation of Irish female players, as this has been the case in several Opens last season already.

The international Billiards sport is currently witnessing a surge of new female players joining the WBL Tour from Ireland, Scotland and England – a trend that can serve as a model for the domestic Billiards scene.
